Description of The Project

_____________________________________________________________________________________

The projects consists in educating and raising awareness towards climate change and pollution. It will be achieved by creating a Facebook Page in which every person in the team will need to post at least once a week. The posts will be mainly tips to help people change their lifestyles in order to adopt a more sustainable way of living. Also, every member picked a specific subject as well as personal in which they will be focusing and researching on. Ideally, every post on the Facebook page should include : some statistics proving why the change is beneficial, a tip, some recommendations and personal experiences.

Goals and Impacts

_____________________________________________________________________________________

The team wishes to achieve some goals by doing this project such as :

Improving our lifestyles;

Reach as many people as possible in order to positively influence their lifestyles;

Create a feeling of community by using social media in order to get people involved;

Give people the desire to change and improve;

Provide simple “lifehacks” and tips with adequate research.

Our team is pursuing these goals in order to create a better environment for everyone and hope to make a change in people’s lives. In fact, there are many possible positive impacts of such changes in one’s lifestyle, such as :

Reducing greenhouse emissions;

Saving money;

Being more conscious about climate change;

Adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Timeline and task division

_____________________________________________________________________________________

  • October 29th: every member has as least one entry ready to be posted on the Facebook page.

  • November 1st  : Creation of the Facebook page. First post and start of advertising.

  • Week of November 6th: meet with the team to see if we are following our schedule and keeping up with the project.

  • November 29th : presentation date.

Every student will have, on average, about 2 hours per week, with research and posting included. It is realistic if everyone stays on task and doesn’t fall back. Every student chose a general topic and a specific action.

  • Renata Mirza : she chose to try to become a vegetarian for a month. She will do research on the economical, personal and ecological benefits of being a vegetarian. Also, she will give out simple and good recipes (or advices) for people.

  • James Liu : he will be focusing on the “energy” side, finding ways to stop useless energy consumption. He will be disconnecting from technology to find different ways to fill the time over the weeks. Also, he will provide adequate research to prove how it can be beneficial for someone to consume energy efficiently.

  • Thornton Yuen : he will start off by trying to take cold and short showers to not waste time and energy when heating water, and sharing environment-friendly products that one can use in order to pollute as little as possible.

  • Manuel-José Navidad : he will focus on transport pollution, and will try to change his lifestyle by walking more and coming to school by bike. He will provide tips for people who live close or far away from school to reduce their gas emissions.

  • Maximiliano Di Donato : he will be focusing on waste, and therefore will start composting at home. He will provide easy tips and benefits for doing such an action while referring to “Just Cool It”.

Of course, every member will need to show research, statistics and concrete facts that support their actions. They will all need to do their best to complete the change in their lifestyle.

Materials/Funding

_____________________________________________________________________________________

This project will be very low cost, and the money will only be needed to buy paper on which to print out the pamphlets, mostly. The team doesn’t exceed a small budget of $10, and will barely need any funding.

Others

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Since the team is using a Facebook page, they can advertise other projects or events related to sustainability. They will keep in contact with the Champlain Green Team in order to know if they can advertise some projects. For instance, we can start a trend, ask people to join in our personal challenges and we can ask people to share their experiences of being sustainable.

You can like our Page and share it with others! Thank you!

I think this project is great because today’s society is very centered around social media. Therefore, using Facebook in particular is a good idea because many young people have an account and the word will spread more efficiently.
However, how will you attract readers on your page? Using social media is easy but making young people read about environment impacts on their facebook might not be a success when all kids come back from school and scroll on their facebook to take a break. Thus, I think that making cool videos can attract readers at a whole other level. For instance, Buzzfeed makes great educational videos without really making us feel as if we are doing anything educational.

I think the idea behind your project is really good. Indeed, we need some people to talk about all the interesting project on sustainability. However, since a Facebook page requires dedication and time, I don't think it is realistic to think that the project can have long-term impacts on the community. I think that you have to find a way for the project to become sustainable. It could be to give to the teacher the passwords of the facebook page at the end of the semester so that he can offer the chance to other teams in the future who are interested in pursuing your project.

As I was reading your project I realized that this is a great idea because Facebook is a great way in order to share your ideas and I believe that as you maintain a good posting schedule you can impact a few individuals. The problem is that your creating this page off of scrap and probably don't have much people following it. This can be an issue because as you try to create awareness not much people view it and if so it may tend to be the same individuals over and over again. As long as you make your content intriguing and interesting you can change the lives of some people in hopes to make this planet somewhat more green. Overall what you have written is very good although in my opinion it might be missing a bit of content and proper sentence structure although it seems good. I like how you explained what every individual's task was and how they all had a special background or interest in each of these aspects. The biggest problem about global warming is that people are either not aware of this phenomenon or that they don't know how to cope with it and decrease their own footprint.

I think you proposal is very interesting, as it mainly revolves around social media, which is something many people use nowadays, especially young people. Also, I think it’s a very good idea that you sensibilise the younger people since they are the ones who will have a big impact in the present, but most importantly, in the future. It’s very interesting that you give small tips to help people be more eco-friendly, since you will gradually change their lifestyles and help them consume less. Moreover, since your platform is Facebook, it will be very easy for people to share your posts to their friends. Overall, your proposal is very interesting and I think it will be very beneficial for the environment!

Great idea! There still many people who don’t know the effect of climate change. In nowadays, social media are a great platform to communicate and reach a lot of people. Facebook is a great way for the us to get more informed about currents problems. However, I think you should use more platform to spread the problems, for example, twitter, Instagram or even YouTube. There are endless ways to spread the message. Overall, this project is an amazing way to let more people to understand to consequences of climate change and pollution.
