Action Research Project - Change in Green
by TYuen5678 on November 14, 2017 - 4:34pm
Description of The Project
The projects consists in educating and raising awareness towards climate change and pollution. It will be achieved by creating a Facebook Page in which every person in the team will need to post at least once a week. The posts will be mainly tips to help people change their lifestyles in order to adopt a more sustainable way of living. Also, every member picked a specific subject as well as personal in which they will be focusing and researching on. Ideally, every post on the Facebook page should include : some statistics proving why the change is beneficial, a tip, some recommendations and personal experiences.
Goals and Impacts
The team wishes to achieve some goals by doing this project such as :
Improving our lifestyles;
Reach as many people as possible in order to positively influence their lifestyles;
Create a feeling of community by using social media in order to get people involved;
Give people the desire to change and improve;
Provide simple “lifehacks” and tips with adequate research.
Our team is pursuing these goals in order to create a better environment for everyone and hope to make a change in people’s lives. In fact, there are many possible positive impacts of such changes in one’s lifestyle, such as :
Reducing greenhouse emissions;
Being more conscious about climate change;
Adopting a healthier lifestyle.
Timeline and task division
October 29th: every member has as least one entry ready to be posted on the Facebook page.
November 1st : Creation of the Facebook page. First post and start of advertising.
Week of November 6th: meet with the team to see if we are following our schedule and keeping up with the project.
November 29th : presentation date.
Every student will have, on average, about 2 hours per week, with research and posting included. It is realistic if everyone stays on task and doesn’t fall back. Every student chose a general topic and a specific action.
Renata Mirza : she chose to try to become a vegetarian for a month. She will do research on the economical, personal and ecological benefits of being a vegetarian. Also, she will give out simple and good recipes (or advices) for people.
James Liu : he will be focusing on the “energy” side, finding ways to stop useless energy consumption. He will be disconnecting from technology to find different ways to fill the time over the weeks. Also, he will provide adequate research to prove how it can be beneficial for someone to consume energy efficiently.
Thornton Yuen : he will start off by trying to take cold and short showers to not waste time and energy when heating water, and sharing environment-friendly products that one can use in order to pollute as little as possible.
Manuel-José Navidad : he will focus on transport pollution, and will try to change his lifestyle by walking more and coming to school by bike. He will provide tips for people who live close or far away from school to reduce their gas emissions.
Maximiliano Di Donato : he will be focusing on waste, and therefore will start composting at home. He will provide easy tips and benefits for doing such an action while referring to “Just Cool It”.
Of course, every member will need to show research, statistics and concrete facts that support their actions. They will all need to do their best to complete the change in their lifestyle.
This project will be very low cost, and the money will only be needed to buy paper on which to print out the pamphlets, mostly. The team doesn’t exceed a small budget of $10, and will barely need any funding.
Since the team is using a Facebook page, they can advertise other projects or events related to sustainability. They will keep in contact with the Champlain Green Team in order to know if they can advertise some projects. For instance, we can start a trend, ask people to join in our personal challenges and we can ask people to share their experiences of being sustainable.
You can like our Page and share it with others! Thank you!
