Neil Percival Young, born November 12, 1945 is a Canadian singer and musician. He moved from Canada in 1966 to California in the United States of America. It is said that he left Canada for financial reasons of continuing his rock star carrier in the states. This reason of Neil Young not living in Canada today is not a valid reason to stop him from trying to save Alberta; he is still a full blooded Canadian. The tar sands in Alberta are the largest oil extraction project in the world and will release more greenhouse emissions than 140 nations. These Tar sands will bring a great deal of human related health problems and environmental concerns. These major concerns don’t bring up another major problem which is where the pipe line oil will be passing, which is dishonoring the Canadian treaties.

The Tar sands in Alberta are bringing very high environmental risks and air pollution increase. The Tar sands are the biggest oil extraction project in Canada’s history. The Tar sands will be bringing at least three times the CO2 emissions as regular oil production and is slated to become the single largest industrial contributor in North America to Climate Change. The oil sands have total area of 141,000 square kilometres this includes land of boreal forest and animal habitats. One of the main problems is with the transportation of the oil after it being processed; many of the pipelines have had problems, which include leaks which have a major effect of the environment and animals being covered in oil. The pipelines are even said by specialist that they are still not perfected and can break.

The oil pipeline is not only going through first nations land going against the treaties it is also making the  First Nation communities downstream of tar sands operation experiencing unprecedented rates of bile and colon cancer, lupus and other diseases.

The tar sands in Alberta have a great amount of negative effects for only one main “goal” to make a profit from our natural resources. The Canadian population will not be consuming the oil since 70% is going to the United States. The oil found in Alberta is not pure, the sand and clay where the oil is found inside needs to go through a process, it will need to be cleaned and it takes 3 to 4 barrels of fresh water to get one barrel of oil. Neil Young said “To me, it’s a basic matter of integrity on the part of Canada. Canada is trading integrity for money”. To finish the oil sands are bringing multiple negatives to themselves just to make a profit. Also the town itself is going through new corruption of drugs and prostitution.
